“Đẩy Xiệp” is the unique and old fishing method in the Southwest provinces of Vietnam. Two long bamboo sticks are made into a V-shaped frame to make netting. The act of throwing the netting to the ocean is depicted as catching the sky.
“Xiệp” is a traditional fishing tool made from bamboo. People put two long bamboo together to form a V shape. The “xiep” is put below the water and then lifted up to catch fishes or shrimps stuck in the net. Although the work seems easy as the bamboo appears to be thin, it actually requires a lot of strength and flexibility since the bamboo is quite hard and so long.
This way of fishing is still popular in some southwest provinces of Vietnam such as Bac Lieu or Tien Giang. When the season comes, young male adults often excitedly go to the beach bringing “xiep” to catch fish or shrimps.
