In Khmer culture, Bay Nui Cow Racing is a famous festival to celebrate the last day of the year, which carries a great meaning behind. The winner will bring both joy and prosperity to himself and the people in his village.

Bay Nui cow racing festival is held in An Giang province in 3 days, starting from the end of the eighth month to the beginning of the ninth month in the Lunar calendar. The purpose of the race is to honor sports, chivalry and to hope for good luck.
Each participant, who has been practicing and preparing in advance for a month, will control two cows to attend the contest. The common breed of cow often used is Bay Nui cow, which is native to the Bay Nui area, Tri Ton district, An Giang province. The winning cow pair will not be eaten after the race has ended, instead, the owner will keep them as a precious asset of the whole village.
